Fall Fun Fest gives back

KidSport Sunshine Coast is able to increase the number of kids who will be taking to the fields and rinks this year as a result of the recent Elphi Fall Fun Fest held at Elphinstone Secondary School.

Teacher Sarah Mani, organizer of the Trina Borley Hanna Anderson Fall Fun Fest, recently presented KidSport co-chairs Carol Duff and Diane Wagner with a cheque in the amount of $2,032.16 at their pep rally on Oct. 17. The Fun Fest, coordinated by Mani and the Grad Class of 2013, chose KidSport and Elphi athletics to benefit from the proceeds raised.

"I think the girls would have liked the idea of contributing to KidSport. They were upstanding citizens, students and athletes," Mani said. "They both shone academically and were extremely hard-working, super well-loved individuals who happened to be best friends, too."

Sports were their passion. They played on the Elphi basketball and volleyball teams, the Sunshine Coast volleyball club team, and on all-star and rep baseball teams. It is the legacy of sports and academic excellence and citizenship these two girls leave behind that strikes a chord with people in the community.

"The Sunshine Coast Community Chapter of KidSport helps kids in our community to have an opportunity to experience the power of sport," Duff said.
