Pearl Mjanes, Helmut and Christa Haas and event organizer Laurie Verchomin, at the Spring Elder Care Fair on March 12 in the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre.
This was the first in a planned series of Elder Care Fairs – 11 seniors’ service providers participated and about 60 people attended. Verchomin said it was a good mix of seniors and senior caregivers.
“Seniors face challenges that range from bottom-line issues such as affordable housing and accessible health care to finding reliable home care and the long waiting lists for existing assisted living residences,” Verchomin said. “As well as practical issues like how to get around town.”
Verchomin is the leader of the Sunshine Coast Senior’s Service Alliance (SCSSA) and operates Graceful Living In Home Care, a local business that matches caregivers and resources to elders in need on the Sunshine Coast. The SCSSA is a cooperative group of businesses and non-profit groups whose mission is to create a resource hub of diverse services for seniors on the Coast. The SCSSA was one of the sponsors of the Fair.
The next event in this seasonal series will take place in June and feature the themes of creativity, community and wellness.
