The wildflowers of British Columbia are enjoyed by all as they blossom in the many habitats that B.C. has to offer. There is much more to these plants than just beautiful objects to view! Some are found only in aquatic environments while others put their roots only in the alpine or in very arid areas. Some plants require up to 17 years to flower while others are deadly if eaten by man. We also have carnivorous plants that trap other organisms to feed on. Some are rare while others are found all around us. Man has also used many plant species as food as well as for medicinal uses. Each species has its own story to tell!

Duane Sept is a biologist, professional free-lance nature photographer and writer. During his biological career he has worked with a wide variety of organisms including various birds, mammals, plants and their communities. He is the author of several books including: Common Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest: British Columbia, Washington and Oregon (to be released May 2019), and The New Beachcombers’ Guide to Seashore Life in the Pacific Northwest, which will be revised and released this spring by Harbour Publishing. His other titles include: Common Mushrooms of the Northwest, Wild Berries of the Northwest and Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Northwest.

Sechelt Arts Centre is located at Medusa and Trail in Sechelt. Coffee and cookies will be served. Visitors welcomed.
