Discover the fascination of flowers

Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden
garden
Howard Will’s presentation at Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden opens the world of flower patterns, such as the exquisite markings on this Pacific Coast hybrid iris.

Come by the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden for a feast of flower patterns with Howard Wills, on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.  Flowers do not flaunt their marvellous colours, shapes, patterns or scents for us humans, but for the sometimes-complex biological function of procreation. Their patterns are aimed at pollination and seed success. Evolution has fostered some fantastic arrangements and patterns.

Wills is a nurseryman from Devon, England with family in B.C. In March he gave a talk about the Beauty of Leaves that gave the audience fresh eyes for seeing the clever ways leaves are arranged to maximize light access. Whether you grow or arrange flowers or simply find pretty blossoms uplifting in November, you will be delighted by what you learn.

Tickets will be available at the door for $20 ($15 for Botanical Garden members). Come a few minutes early to become a member and enjoy the discount, plus many extra perks including unlimited free visits to the Botanical Garden, located at 5941 Mason Rd. in West Sechelt.

The Garden is open for winter hours Friday to Monday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., by donation. For more information, see www.coastbotanicalgarden.org
