Pender Harbour Wildlife presents Calgary geologist Peter Hews on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at Pender Harbour Secondary School.

Twelve years ago, Hews discovered a newly eroded riverbank section of the Oldman River in Southern Alberta that had exposed the front part of a dinosaur skull and horn.

After much study and over a 10-year period, the skull revealed that this was a completely new species and genus of Ceratopsian dinosaur; and in part, because of the difficulty in extracting it from the rock layer, it was initially given the name Hellboy.

Hews will share many unpublished photos of the original discovery and its 10-year story to get it displayed and into the prehistory books.

Home-baked refreshments will be served. Updates at [email protected]. This event is one week earlier than usual to accommodate the schedule of the speaker.
