Harvest Festival will buzz with excitement this Sunday, Sept. 1, at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden in Sechelt from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dubbed the "last blast of summer" and featuring live entertainment, food and a variety of activities for all ages, this will be the fifth fun-filled harvest festival.
Brothers in Farms, the hottest and most eclectic band from Roberts Creek, will provide tunes for all ears, and have their new CD on hand. This year the Driftwood Players' roving Story Theatre will perform fables and Shakespearian snippets.
The plant sale table will be loaded with fine plants at bargain prices, and they'll have their own garlic for sale for you to cook with this year and to plant your own crop for next year's harvest.
In the veggie patch, children can try their hand at digging potatoes and tasting fresh raw veggies. Parents, prepare for some surprising smiles!
Master gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions about all aspects of gardening.
In the seniors' garden, discover how enthusiastic people and a good garden design can keep you gardening into your 70s, 80s or 90s.
Children can paint and take home a driftwood garden pal.
The Sunshine Coast Spinners and Weavers Guild will host a nature-weaving activity and displays, and the Beekeepers Association will show off their demonstration hives, with our first taste of home-grown honey.
The Bat Action Committee has some surprising facts about bats, the Sunshine Coast Regional District will have a water wise display, and the Astronomy Club are bringing their telescopes for solar viewing.
This is a dog-friendly event, and well-behaved humans are welcome on leash with their canine buddies. (Dogs, please ask your human not to take you into the veggie patch.)
Food will be ably cooked by Rotary's barbecue team and the Faux Real Food Truck. Dessert is at the bake sale table where you'll find home-made baking and preserves to please your family and friends. To keep the event as green as possible, as many items as possible will be compostable or reusable.
Purchase a reusable, collapsible water bag instead of bottled water - the water is free.
