Strait Coffee in Wilson Creek has garnered quite a reputation in its support of a variety of charitable activities throughout Sechelt, and none quite so spectacular as the event sponsored several years ago when Strait employee Kate Hergott’s Shave for the Brave raised over $5,000 for Young Adult Cancer Canada.
When retired employee Monica Davis requested their assistance in her breast cancer fundraiser, Monica Shaves Her Head, owners Grace Bland and Lyle Mumford were quick to offer their support and even provided the venue.
So it is that on Jan. 2 at 7 p.m., once again the doors of the coffee shop in Wilson Creek will be thrown open for those who would like to witness the event and offer their financial and moral support.
Monica is a bit older and her hair is much greyer than Kate’s, but stylist Nikki Lloyd of Electric Chair in Gibsons says she will have no problems taking it off. And Nikki has once again offered her services free of charge.
Monica is looking to raise $2,000 and a donation jar has been set up at the coffee shop for any who wish to contribute. In addition, Monica has a special page on the Cancer Foundation website.
