We have an abundance.
As Coast residents used the COVID Lockdown to clean out closets, cupboards and carports, we all realized we have a lot of “stuff” that is in good shape, but now surplus to our needs. Thrift stores, when they were finally able to reopen, were overwhelmed with donations. They have had to restrict what and how much they could reasonably accept. And the popular Share Shed at the landfill is closed indefinitely.
Accordingly, a team of community volunteers has organized a Community Clearout modelled on the popular Free Markets held in Vancouver and Surrey.
To be held at Gibsons Park Plaza parking lot adjacent to the health clinic on Sunday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the tailgate-style event allows participants to set up tables full of good, clean, useful items that need to be re-homed. And every item, large or small, is free.
Some participants will collect donations for the charity of their choice from those feeling the need to give something in exchange, but the whole point is to share that abundance we enjoy here on the Sunshine Coast.
All COVID-related health protocols will be observed at this outdoor event, similar to those in place at the Sechelt Farmers’ Market.
There is no cost to participate, but space is limited. Participants will be required to remove all their remaining items at event’s end (“pack it in, pack it out” protocol). Please email [email protected] or phone 604-886-9648 to reserve a space.
