KidSport Sunshine Coast is able to increase the number of kids from Port Mellon to Earls Cove who will be taking to the fields and rinks this year as a result of the annual Elphi Fall Fun Fest held at Elphinstone Secondary School in September.

Sarah Mani, organizer of the Trina-Hanna Fall Fun Fest, recently presented co-chairs Carol Duff and Diane Wagner with a cheque in the amount of $3,855.52. The Fun Fest, co-ordinated by Mani and the Grad Class of 2010, chose KidSport as its 'charity of choice,' with additional proceeds going toward the Hanna and Trina memorial bursary to keep it going strong.

"I think the girls would have liked the idea of contributing to KidSport," said Mani. "They were upstanding citizens, students and athletes. They both shone academically and were extremely hard-working, super well-loved individuals who happened to be best friends, too."

Sports were their passion. They played on the Elphi basketball and volleyball teams, as well as on the Sunshine Coast Volleyball Club team, and on all-star and rep fastball teams. It is the legacy of sports and academic excellence and citizenship these two girls leave behind that strikes a chord with people in the community.

"The Sunshine Coast Community Chapter of KidSport exists to ensure that kids in our community who want to have the opportunity to experience the power of sport," added Duff.

KidSport is a national program, and the realization of programs and funding lies in the hands of the community. KidSport B.C. oversees 28 community chapters, like KidSport Sunshine Coast, and has 260 direct volunteers who work tirelessly to provide opportunities for children all over the province to get in the game.
