On Saturday, Sept. 24 the special event Word on the Water takes place on the BC Ferries’ Langdale to Horseshoe Bay route. Join Sechelt and Gibsons Public Library staff for random acts of reading and storytelling on the 10:25 and 11:30 a.m. and 12:35 and 1:36 p.m. sailings.
Word on the Water celebrates Literacy Month in a unique Coastal way. Literacy month gives our community an opportunity to reflect on the crucial role literacy skills play in all aspects of our lives: from our physical and emotional health to our work potential and performance. Beyond reading, literacy includes a range of skills including understanding numbers and money, computer skills, and how to find information on the Internet. Improving literacy for everyone is the key to ensuring every member of our community has the ability to navigate our modern world and all its demands.
Word on the Water is a fun event aimed at celebrating the joy of reading while raising the profile and importance of literacy for every age. On Saturday, Sept. 24, watch out for roaming librarians on the ferry and be ready to enjoy a story! There are many resources on the Sunshine Coast that can assist individuals to improve their literacy skills.
