Mischief

  • On Nov. 30, Capilano Highways staff reported mischief after discovering an unknown suspect had purposely blocked a drainage culvert on Byng Road, Roberts Creek, with rocks and cloth. This caused the water to divert down the road and onto the highway causing flooding. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-8015. 

Collision

  • On Dec. 2, police attended a three-vehicle incident northbound on Highway 101 at Leek Road, Roberts Creek, after the first vehicle struck the back of a stopped second vehicle, which then struck the back of a third vehicle. Fortunately, no life-threatening injuries were reported though a couple of people involved did go to Sechelt Hospital for assessment. Both the first and second vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene but the third vehicle was able to be driven away. The driver of the first vehicle advised that she had been looking in the rearview mirror and did not realize traffic was stopped in front of her in time to avoid a collision. The file has been referred to ICBC.

Theft

  • Sometime since mid-November, a suspect stole a ride-on lawn mower from a property in the 400 block of Pratt Road, Gibsons. The lawn mower is described as an early 2000’s grey Craftsman model LT2000 with a Briggs and Stratton 18-horsepower engine and a front push bar attached. There was also an aftermarket Petcock fuel shut-off near the carburetor under the hood or cowl. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-8034.
  • On Dec. 1, a tool box, a power tool, and some hand tools found in the 800 block of Joe Road, Roberts Creek, were turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2021-8036.
  • On Dec. 1 at approximately 9 p.m., a suspect or suspects stole chemical pumps from a business in the 5600 block of Inlet Avenue, Sechelt. Security cameras captured a truck pulling up to the premises, and one person is seen loading the pumps into the back of the truck before fleeing. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-8063. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and the file is still under investigation.
  • Overnight on Dec. 4, a suspect gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in the 4600 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, and stole a Revolution brand black cymbal case containing four Sabian cymbals, including a 21-inch and 14-inch hand-hammered set and two 18-inch crash cymbals. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-800072.
  • Between Nov. 28 and 29, a suspect stole a blue Makita Mac 5200 air compressor from a job site in the 5900 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-8011.

Lost property

  • On Nov. 29, a Coast resident was driving on Highway 101 near Leaning Tree Road, Halfmoon Bay, when a large box containing an industrial shampooer fell out of her vehicle. The colleague of the owner then advised having seen a female driver stop and pick up a large box from the same area a short time after the box is believed to have fallen out of the owner’s truck. To date, the shampooer, described as black and metal with a cylinder covering the wires and hoses, has not been turned in to police. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-8012.

Prohibited driver

  • On Dec. 3, police initiated a traffic stop with a speeding vehicle in the 9700 block of Highway 101, Halfmoon Bay and noted the driver did not possess a valid licence. The driver, who was able to confirm his driving history and personal information, was issued two provincial driving prohibitions in accordance with instructions on his driving record, including one for six months. The matter has been referred to the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.
