Bursaries available

Canadian Federation of University Women

The CFUW-SC advocates for social justice and the elimination of poverty. It works to further women’s education. The organization is particularly concerned with helping mature women to return to school. Each spring the CFUW-SC awards bursaries to mature women pursuing post-secondary studies. The first bursaries were awarded in 1990. Since then, over $151,000 has been awarded to Sunshine Coast women. Year round activities are devoted to raising money through special events and other programs. The Bursary Society also receives donations from caring community members who support CFUW bursary work.

In May 2015, the University Women’s Bursary Society awarded $10,000 to 15 Sunshine Coast women. To qualify, applicants must be at least 21 years of age; living on the Sunshine Coast for over a year; and carrying a 50 per cent course load at an accredited educational facility. Certificate, diploma and degree programs, on campus or online, are eligible.

Applicants are rated on course load, program relevancy to employability, need, and life achievement. Applications can be found at www.cfuwsc.org/bursaries. This year’s application deadline is May 8, at 11:59 p.m.
