The ninth annual botanical plant sale takes place this Sunday, Mother's Day, May 8, at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden, 5941 Mason Rd. in Sechelt from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This year's sale will be better than ever due to a longer potting season in the renovated potting-up area. Shoppers will find more plants and several new products. There will be succulent wreaths, cycads, bamboo, unique pig manure (your plants will thank you), the 2012 calendar Poppies from the Roof of the World and a chance to purchase an outstanding new gardening tool.

And of course, there will be a excellent selection of perennials, grasses, food plants, herbs, shrubs and small trees. For those who would like to see the new garden site, a guided tour will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Coffee and cookies will be available.

We'll even try to bring on the sun, especially for the moms in attendance. Families might be surprised to know that gardening moms often like nothing better than plants and odourless manure for their Mother's Day treat. And a few easy plants of his or her own to tend can often turn a child into a life-long gardener. Gardening can definitely be a healthy, life-long activity for the whole family.

The entrance to the sale is from the north parking lot - look for the red banner. Admission is free. Come early for the best selection, or come later for a more relaxed experience -either way there will be experienced gardeners on hand to help you select the best plants for your particular gardening situation and to answer your gardening questions. Bring a box, barrow or bin to tote your plants, or leave them in our plant hold area while you continue shopping.

Spring is a great season for planting perennials, shrubs and trees - they've enjoyed this cool weather. And a stop at the Botanical Garden will really get you in the mood for gardening.
