The Sunshine Coast Pride committee is proud to present the fourth annual Pride Dance with DJ Delia on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 8 p.m. to 1 .m. at the Roberts Creek Community Hall.

Put on your dancing shoes, beads and baubles and come out to celebrate with us. It's all about being yourself and having fun.

Tickets for the dance are $20 at the door or $15 in advance, available at MELOmania, 420 Hemp Shop, Shanti Gifts and Beauchamp's Candy & Chocolates.

In conjunction with the dance, there is also the inaugural Pride Family and Friends picnic barbecue the following day, Sunday, Aug. 8, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Frank West Hall and Mary Anne West Field, located at 1224 Chaster Rd. in Gibsons. Hot dogs, hamburgers, garden burgers, chips and soda drinks will be available, or bring your own picnic. DJ Delia is generously donating music, so bring an appetite and a game and join us for an afternoon of activities, barbecue and entertainment for family, friends, allies and supporters!

"Every year we turn away youth from the dance because of under-age issues, but we felt there was a definite need for an event to celebrate LGBT youth and families and wanted to create a space to be proud and have fun with the community, hence the picnic on Sunday," said Pride committee spokesperson Kathy Lewis. "Both of these events are fundraisers to provide resources for LGBT youth on the Coast, such as suicide prevention, family and peer support with counselling, phone life lines, a youth drop-in and support of the newly established GSAs, [Gay Straight Alliance] in the secondary schools."

If you would like to volunteer for either of these events, contact Lewis at shoutonthecoast@gmail.com.
