The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary has been busy preparing for its semi-annual Bake, Craft and Plant Sale, to be held on Dec. 2 in the Trail Bay Mall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The apple pies have been so popular that there is a separate sale in October when a “core” group of women meet to put the famous pies together. These women have it down to a fine art. Everyone has their job, from peeling the apples to making the pastry, to making the streusel topping and then assembling the pies. Customers from previous sales put in their orders, this year culminating in 96 pre-ordered pies. There will be a limited number of pies available at the Dec. 2 sale, along with a wide variety of baked goods made by over 25 of our members.
The Halfmoon Bay branch also has a keen craft group who sew, knit and craft in anticipation of this fundraiser. They make a wide variety of Christmas crafts, sew placemats, wall hangings and knitters, and make hats, gloves, scarves, baby wear, etc. There is also a plant section that provides a wide range of indoor and outdoor plants that have been nurtured in the months leading up to the sale.
The proceeds go to supporting health care on the Coast as well as to the Sechelt Hospital. This active volunteer group is hoping for a great turnout on Friday Dec. 2.
