Army cadets hold ceremonial review

On June 4, the cadets and staff of 2963 Seaforth Highlanders Army Cadet Corps celebrated their 38th annual ceremonial review at Chatelech Secondary School.

The reviewing officer for the parade was Lieut. Col. Paul Ursich, commanding officer of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. Joining him were dignitaries and guests from the local community and representatives from Pacific Region Cadets, located in Victoria. The parade commander was Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Jordan Walton.

Cadets are awarded each year for completing their training, as well as receiving various awards for outstanding service. The following awards were presented during the parade: best shot, air rifle - MWO Jordan Walton; best dressed cadet - MCpl Celyna Stenner; best attendance - WO Makenna Gregorchuk, Sgt. AJ Lavric, Sgt. Thomas Lavric; best recruit - LCpl. Drake Parent; most improved cadet - LCpl. Anthony Cottrell; best junior NCO - Sgt. Nicholas Brotherston; best senior NCO - WO Makenna Gregorchuk; Royal Canadian Legion medal of excellence - Sgt. AJ Lavric; Lord Strathcona Trust medal - MWO Jordan Walton.

Cadets are now focused on attending various training camps to further their skills, with WO Gregorchuk and MWO Walton attending full-bore marksman courses in Connaught, and Sgt. Bailee Petersen attending sports and fitness instructor training in Victoria at Albert Head Cadet Training Centre. Cadets are also attending training at the best known local B.C. camp, Vernon Cadet Training Centre.

Regular training will resume in September, with the start of the school year. All youth ages 12 to 18 are invited to attend, with training suited to meet the needs no matter what age you are when you join. Free uniforms, free training, and you earn high school credits that go toward graduation.
