Not travelling far this month? Try Armchair Travel at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden, and visit Canada's Far North on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 14, in the comfort of the Sparling Pavilion, 5941 Mason Rd. Legendary Vancouver-area gardener Glen Patterson has travelled north many times and will present photographs and information about the amazing high Arctic plants that have adapted to the harsh environment of the Territory of Nunavut and Northern Ellesmere Island. Travelling with his son, Dennis Patterson, then premier of the Northwest Territories, Glen has experienced the north that many of us only dream of and has photographed the vast, richly-detailed summer beauty of these unique landscapes. He is a much sought-after speaker across the continent.
Before and after Armchair Travel, treat yourself to some new-to-you garden books. Purchase a bag for $10 and fill with as many garden-related books and magazines as you can manage. The book selection is wide, with some brand new and others well-loved, each one making for wonderful, informative reading at bargain prices.
The book sale begins at 1:15 pm, with Patterson's talk starting at 2 p.m. Admission is by donation at the door.
Armchair Travel is perfect mental stimulation after the holiday's saturation, so bring a friend and head to Canada's Far North, right here in Sechelt.
