Advice for Grade 12 from Coast graduating students

It’s the end of the school year and students moving on have advice for their younger peers

As graduation is approaching for some of us and school has officially ended, I thought it would be a good idea to get some advice from my Grade 12 peers to help out the younger grades. The five years of high school can be a confusing and long road but some quick advice from Grade 12s can always be useful.

• “Highschool isn’t as big of a deal people make it out to be, just don’t take it too seriously.” – Mackenzie, Grade 12 at Elphi

• “Play music, have fires, find a good group of people and stay lit.” – Owen, Grade 12 at Chat

• “Don’t get too caught up in unimportant stuff. Focus on yourself and find a fun activity to do outside of high school to relieve stress.” – Kaliyana, Grade 12 at Chat

• “Don’t let what other people do or think change who you are and what you want to become.” – Angelika, Grade 12 at Elphi

• “Don’t leave work till the night before, set aside a time and try to get the work done well in advance.” – Ryder, Grade 12 at Chat

All of this advice varies in its own way, whether it’s the reminder that it’s important to focus on yourself, or to not take high school too seriously at all. The advice given has been learned over the past five years we’ve been in high school and therefore it’s important to always remember to not take anything too seriously and remind yourself that you’ll always be learning.

I would like to thank all of the individuals who have taken part in my articles over the past eight months, as well as the silent readers and supporters of my once-a-month column. Lastly, I would also like to thank the Coast Reporter for giving me this opportunity to publish my writing and my ideas to the public eye. Good luck Grade 8s and peace out Grade 12s.

Sarah Wilson is a graduating Grade 12 student on the Sunshine Coast. Congratulations Sarah and thank you for your column contributions!
