Adopt an artifact at Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives.

In 2016, the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives will be celebrating its 50th anniversary preserving the history and stories of the Sunshine Coast.  Leading up to this exciting event, the Museum is planning a major renovation to make their building more accessible for visitors with mobility challenges.

To help support this vital project, the Museum has launched the Adopt an Artifact campaign aimed at raising funds for the renovations. Museum staff have chosen over 30 unique, priceless and intriguing artifacts that people can adopt for different donation amounts. There are a variety of rewards for each level of donation – from a unique adoption certificate with a photograph of the artifact, to a behind the scenes meet and greet with the curator and your chosen object. (All artifacts remain at the Museum for continued preservation.) Individuals can choose the pay-what-they-can option (up to $999), or a higher donation level to support the campaign.

Artifacts up for adoption include items related to Union Steamships, early logging and fishing, the Howe Sound Cannery, and The Beachcombers television show, among many others. Some of the highlights include Relic’s toque and jacket from The Beachcombers, antique dolls and teddy bears, and George Gibson’s original walking cane.

Visit the Museum website to peruse all of the artifacts available for adoption. The Museum is also welcoming general donations for their upcoming accessibility renovations. For more information, visit sunshinecoastmuseum.ca or call 604-886-8232.
