A dog gone good time

Sometimes when something goes to the dogs, it can be a good thing. Actually, going to the dogs can be a great thing. Last Sunday at Shirley Macey Park in Gibsons was a fine example of just that when the second annual Bark in the Park was held.

Last Sunday at Shirley Macey Park in Gibsons was a fine example of just that when the second annual Bark in the Park was held. The sunwas out in full force to welcome the dog community and more than 300 dogs and owners visited throughout the afternoon. There were 30 dog-centric exhibitors on hand doling out yummy dog treats and sharing information on their businesses, services, veterinary clinics and rescue organizations.

Opening remarks were given by Catherine Ann who also presented cheques totalling $1,700 to four local rescue organizations, fulfilling the commitment she made from her successful stuffed animal drive earlier in the month.

There was a doggy fashion show where three local dog-clothing designers had their pooch models strutting their stuff. The many games and contests held during the afternoon had everyone and their dogs barking at the funny canine antics. Throughout the day tons of prizes and treats where handed out, all donated by local dog businesses as well as goodies from dog businesses across B.C., Canada and a couple from south of the border.

To round off what was truly a dog-lovers mega afternoon, all attendees were treated to a human cake (donated by SuperValu) and a lip smacking all natural doggy cake (donated by cHoncHo, the original birthday dog). The day ended with a beautiful pet blessing ceremony.

The Bow Wow Coast a Facebook community of dog lovers from the Sunshine Coast, hosted the event.
