The Terry Fox Run is turning 45 on Sept. 14!
Recently CBC had a symbol of B.C. contest and the Terry Fox Statue was in the “running.” The Terry Fox story continues to inspire folks of all ages thanks to the enduring energy and dedication of volunteers and Terry’s family who are hands on in the work of the Terry Fox Foundation.
The focus of the foundation is to continue Terry’s legacy of supporting research to understand and find ways to challenge the ravages of cancer. Whose life has not been affected or touched by one of the most common causes of disease and death in our country? What we can do is show up for cancer victims, survivors and Terry on run day at the Gibsons and Area Recreation Centre parking lot.
Be ready to roll, walk, run, or stroll for a kilometre or three, five or 10 along routes avoiding Gibsons Way and the 101. A volunteer will be happy to take a donation on site if an online donation was not already submitted via terryfox.org/run.
The organizer will set up at 8 a.m. and stay until finishers return.
The route map will show the safest way to enjoy the event with dogs, friends or family members sharing the fun.
The foundation is most excited to get the report on the number of participants. The money raised is carefully preserved to ensure the maximum contribution to cancer research and promotion of the spirit of Terry Fox through community outreach in school programs.
