Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of May 9 to 16:

Theft

  • On May 10, a shoplifter was reported at a business in the 1100 block of Sunshine Coast Highway, Gibsons. The shoplifter stole approximately $400 worth of liquor before leaving the business. Police are reviewing surveillance video and the file is still under investigation.
  • On May 15, a shoplifter was reported at a business in the 5500 block of Sunshine Coast Highway, Sechelt. The shoplifter stole a bag of candy before leaving without paying. Police identified a suspect caught on surveillance and was later arrested for Theft under $5,000.
  • On May 15, two shoplifters were reported at a business in the 5700 block of Teredo St, Sechelt. The shoplifters stole two bamboo pillows before rushing past staff to exit. Police reviewed the surveillance before locating and detaining the two suspects nearby. Police determined that no theft had occurred but were warned to not return to the business.

Impaired driving

  • On May 15, police observed a possible impaired driver in the 5500 block of Wharf Ave, Sechelt, after observing erratic driving behaviour. Police noted the driver was exhibiting signs of intoxication from alcohol and gave him a roadside alcohol screening test. After two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.

  • On May 11, a mountain bike was found in Sechelt and turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2022-3172.
