Video: Powell River Logger Sports carving competition underway

Chainsaw artists arrived early at Willingdon Beach today, Wednesday, July 9, to transform trees into art in just four days. People are invited to watch carvers from the qathet region and international competitors take part in an event that precedes Powell River Logger Sports weekend, happening Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13, at the Loggers Memorial Bowl.

"Folks can drop by the gravel parking lot at Willingdon Beach and vote for your favourites," said carving competition organizer Michelle Silvester. "Sunday at 3 pm, the top three competitors will be announced."

This year’s artists are: Jay Perrin, Powell River; Clint Blaney, Powell River; Shea Larking, Seymour Arm, BC; Dave Mckamey, Penticton, BC; Brigette Lochhead, Vancouver, BC; Tyler Welfing, Vernon, BC; Kamron Garbe, Armstrong, BC; Tao Feng, Surrey, BC (China); Benji Waretini-Hemara, North Vancouver, BC (New Zealand); Michael Penny, Fernie, BC; Stephanie Penner, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; and Colin Brown, Brucefield, Ontario.
