HAZY SKIES: There are plenty of wildfires currently in coastal BC blowing smoke into the qathet region. The Weatherhood forecast for Friday, September 5, is for a mix of sun and cloud and a temperature high of 22 degrees this afternoon. The photo above was taken at Willingdon Beach.

The following special air quality statement has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) for sḵelhp (Saltery Bay) to Powell River:

Numerous regions across BC are being impacted or are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24 to 48 hours. Numerous active fires in the province and widespread smoke. During a wildfire, smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour-by-hour.

As smoke levels increase, health risks increase. Limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

Also contributing to the haze is an out of control fire north of Powell Lake that was detected on September 1, and an out of control fire near Toba Inlet that was detected on August 30, according to the Coastal Fire Centre.

The Weatherhood forecast for Friday, September 5, is for a mix of sun and cloud and high temperature of 22 degrees later this afternoon, and no precipitation.

For Saturday, September 6, the forecast indicates an afternoon temperature of 20 degrees and 15 degrees overnight. Sunday, September 6, the temperature will cool a little to 19 degrees in the daytime with winds up to 11.8 kilometres near the water.
