Sunshine Coast Tourism (SCT) is inviting residents and visitors to participate in its first Sunshine Coast Clean Up.

On Earth Day, April 22, the organization is asking people to take a few minutes out of their day to visit a local beach, trail, or outdoor public space and help clean up.

“It is our privilege to promote and share the natural beauty of the Sunshine Coast’s incredible coastlines, forests, and lakes,” said SCT executive director Paul Kamon. “We cannot take this precious region for granted, so it is important that we sustain the good health of our natural tourism attractions and resources for future generations to enjoy.”

SCT is also hoping anyone participating in the Sunshine Coast Clean Up will post photos and videos on social media using the hashtag #sunshinecoastcleanup.

The organization will then use the photos and videos in a social media campaign to “help unify and share our Earth Day message of sustainable tourism to the world.”

The organization is offering the following tips for anyone who wants to participate: Wear gloves, bring a buddy, bring hand sanitizer, and don’t over do it. This means handling only garbage that is within your means to clean up – if you come across hazardous materials, please do not try to clean up these materials on your own, and instead contact the appropriate organization. Bring buckets or trash bags. Recycle and compost what you can.
