Harbour spirit alive and well, bear visits after 20 years

Madeira Market’s “Thanksgiving Christmas” was blessed with happy shoppers, visitors, friends and the best vendors including the famous local artist Ken Walters. The Harbour spirit was alive and well as we laughed, shared stories, and fine-dined on Tony’s Triple B’s burgers and fish and chips in the sunshine. Thank you to all.

We will do it all again each Saturday for the rest of October. Come see us this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Precious pottery from Huckleberry Studio, magical rocks from Rachel, dahlia bouquets, cotton washable masks and more crafts and treasures. Time for Santa to start shopping?

Speaking of Ken Walters, he will be presenting at this years Art Crawl at Sunshine Villa B&B in Kleindale.

At Harbourside Friendship, on Thursday, Oct. 22, volunteer firefighters will present information on fire home safety. Join the get-together at the Hall at 10:30 a.m. Bring a lunch. For more info contact Marlene at 604-883-9900.

Bear with me. As an animal advocate and member of the Sunshine Coast Bear Alliance, I was dismayed to find our very protected, hidden away Liberty apple tree had been visited by a bear for the first time in 20 years. It came quietly, sat next to my prize dahlias, ate quietly and returned to the forest. We picked remaining fruit. Signs from SCBA were ready to be posted should the bear come again. The bear did not return.

We had already given away much of our bounty so now what to do? I heard Brickers Cidery took good apples. Messaged and yes! Road trip. Lunch date. Handed in our apples and received an exceedingly kind thank you. Inside the warm and welcoming Cidery for lunch we enjoyed glasses of the finest cider and chart-topping mussels in delish broth with baguette from the Food Hut. Divine experience. Treat yourself. Donate apples. Keep bears safe.

Huge heartfelt thanks to the very special people who made magic, caring for me after my recent accident.

Stay safe, everyone. Be kind and respectful. Practise the protocols. Contact me with your news at dilysanne@hotmail.com for the Friday edition of The Coast Reporter.
