VANCOUVER — A Vancouver man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing death of another man in the city's Downtown Eastside.

Police say Benny Armstrong has been sentenced to five years in jail, in addition to a 10-year firearms prohibition, for the death of 26-year-old Abeal Abera in June 2018.

Police say the stabbing happened when two people were involved in an altercation on West Hastings near Abbott streets.

The victim died in hospital a week later.

Police say a six-year investigation led to the arrest of Armstrong last year.

The man has already served 740 days in custody before the sentencing, and police say he will spend another 1,085 days in prison to serve out his five-year prison sentence.
