'Mother Nature's power': Motorcyclist photographs massive wildfire from lookout

He was riding his motorcycle in Manning Park when he saw the large plume of smoke.

An Abbotsford man captured spectacular photographs of a B.C. wildfire during a recent motorcycle trip.

On July 12, he was planning to ride to Cascade Lookout in Manning Park when he spotted the large white plume of smoke.

When he saw it, he knew it was a fire.

"I took photos showing Mother Nature’s power, a beauty in destruction,” the man, who did not want to be named, told Lodestar Media.

The blaze he was looking at was the Placer Creek wildfire. The fire, first discovered on July 12, is currently mapped at 3,071 hectares and listed as out of control.

As he watched, the wildfire quickly grew, which he documented with his camera.

“The whole sequence of photos was about 15 minutes, from a small cloud to a massive one.”

He often takes photographs of animals and instantly thought of the impact the wildfire would have on them.

“Every life is important, so we all must be careful on how we act in nature and not leave burning fire pits or campfires behind,” he said.

BC Wildfire Service believes the Placer Creek wildfire is human-caused.
