VANCOUVER — The agency that provides emergency communications for much of British Columbia says 911 service is back to normal across the southern Interior following a roughly five-hour outage.
A statement from E-Comm was issued just before 8 p.m. Thursday confirming 911 service in the central and southern Okanagan region had been restored.
E-Comm reported the disruption at about 2:30 p.m. and said residents from the Lillooet area east to the Kootenay region were affected.
The agency says TELUS technicians worked through the night to find the cause of the outage and more details will be provided when the investigation is complete.
While the outage was underway, 911 callers in affected areas were being told to call their local 10-digit police non-emergency number if they needed immediate help.
E-Comm says no other regions of the province were affected by the outage.
