The Vancouver man is originally from Timmins, Ont.

A Vancouver man living in low-income housing pleaded guilty to threat and weapon charges Nov. 28 and was sentenced to one day in jail on top of time served.

Michael David Joseph Landry pleaded guilty to uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

On April 7, Landry kicked in the door of a room at the Howard Johnson hotel at Vancouver’s Granville and Davie streets, Judge Kathryn Denhoff heard.

The court further heard that Landry had been seen sitting outside a hotel room door on April 4 with what appeared to be a handgun. It was later found to be a BB gun.

On April 8, the Timmins, Ont. native was arrested in the hotel. No handgun was found when a search warrant was executed.

When Landry later failed to attend court, a warrant was issued. He was released but once more did not attend court and was taken back into custody.

Denhoff heard Landry got into a dispute with a woman on Oct. 22 and bear-sprayed her door while yelling. He was arrested and bear spray and a pellet gun were seized.

On Nov. 3, his bail was revoked.

Crown prosecutor Michael Bauer said Landry has a very extensive record, with 115 convictions in B.C. and Ontario. Charges encompass assaults, assaults with weapons, thefts and break and enters.

Landry also received one year of probation.

The Howard Johnson hotel is among Vancouver properties the province has purchased to provide housing for the homeless.
