Meet Sunshine Coast Regional District Area B candidate Patrick Dickie

The following is a Q&A that was distributed to all Sunshine Coast Regional District candidates.

Candidate name

Patrick Dickie

Age

58

Occupation (s)

Retired

Which position are you running for?

Area B

Do you live in the area you're running for? For how long?

Yes. 24 years

What should the board be doing to meet the promise of stable year-round water supply?

The Church Road well and the Langdale wells are a good start to meet the demand now. With future additions like Rainy River, Lake nine, Clowhom lake and Sakinaw lake this creates a diverse water supply.

Should the SCRD be preparing for climate change? How?

The SCRD is using the Building Adaptive and Resilient Communities as a guide to mitigate climate change in our community. The SCRD has just received a grant for mapping software, that will help predict where coastal flooding may occur.

If not acclaimed: Coopers Green – what do you want to see happen?

I would love to see a new hall at Coopers Green!! Let's make it happen we have waited long enough.

The SCRD has seen major tax increases this year, what opportunities are there to mitigate these?

Honestly, I am not sure what option would be available, but I will look to keep taxes as low as possible.

How would you balance pushback on development with need for housing?

I would like to see zoning that required new development to include affordable housing units. We have zoning bylaws and Official Community Plans for a reason, and we need to stand by these documents and not bend to rezoning requests.
