Volunteers are being asked to help maintain trails and assist visitors for the upcoming Dakota Ridge winter season.

The recreation area, located up a Forest Service Road in Wilson Creek, is operated by the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) and also relies on volunteers when the area opens for winter, usually in December. It maintains about 20 kilometres of cross-country ski trails and seven kilometres of snowshoe trails.

“Trail hosts will be responsible for various tasks including providing information to the public, monitoring trails, shovelling accesses, and checking day passes,” reads a statement on the Dakota Ridge Facebook Page.

An information meeting has been planned for Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at the SCRD office on Field Road. Those unable to attend can contact the Parks Department by email at Parks.Department@scrd.ca or by calling 604-885-6802.

Season passes are available for purchase at the Gibsons Area Community Centre and Sechelt Aquatic Centre. A discount of 10 per cent applies to tickets purchased before Dec. 15.
