Sechelt’s Heather Benko (14) was named most valuable player of the U15 Volleyball BC Provincial Championships, held in Abbotsford April 26 to 28.

Heather’s dedication to the sport paid dividends in helping her team, BCO Black, win the championship with a perfect record, winning all but one set in the whole tournament.

More than 700 players under the age of 15 registered for the tournament, representing 62 club teams, making it the largest volleyball tournament in B.C.

Heather, after a fierce selection process to secure her spot on the elite North Shore BCO Black team, commuted three times a week to practice, in addition to numerous out-of-province competitions. On April 26 her hard work culminated in a gold medal performance in Abbotsford.

Heather and her team will be playing at the end of the month at Washington State University’s Emerald City Classic Invitational Tournament.
