Along with more than 100 students from across the U.S. and Canada, they were able to learn from Rener Gracie, the grandson of jiu jitsu founder Helio Gracie, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday on Oct. 1.

RenerGracie is the coachof Coast Martial Arts chief instructor Shawn Phillips who teaches theGracie jiu jitsusystem exactly as is it is taught at the main academy in Torrance, and the same as originally taught by Helio.

"It was an opportunity for a few of our students to experience the highest level of jiu jitsu, straight from the source," said Phillips. "We were lucky to have been asked to help with the kidsbully proof seminar as well, as this is such an important issue for our children."
