Writer takes exception to golf comments

Take a look around to see that we are fortunate to have two major 18-hole courses on the Coast, which are true gems. The Sechelt course, when set up from the championships tees, is well over 6,800 yards, which you will be hard pressed to find at any Lower Mainland course.

It is hard to realize you actually attended the two Sechelt meetings, where our new mayor and council representatives outlined the immediate need to protect the course and improve the overall venue.

I'm one of the founding members, which included substantial financial beginnings and additional calls for loans and finally the issuance of mortgage units to assist the groundskeepers to maintain the very necessary equipment, preserve the greens and, in general, keep the course in tip-top shape, with a minimum of staff.

I personally would like to say thank you to our new council and the newly-formed advisory committee who do have golf course experience, whether it be financial or the actual running of the Sechelt course.

The message was loud and clear - the short range plan is to keep the Sechelt course open and actively pursue outside investors who will be pleasantly surprised by the friendly people and this gem on the Coast.
