There is a group of about 60 people working against change in Sechelt. Their agenda is to shut down plans for the new sewer treatment plant, just as many of them worked to prevent Target Marine from expanding their business. After a referendum and lawsuits that cost us a lot of money in staff time, the courts ruled against them. Meanwhile, Target stayed here, but other companies that watched the process wouldn't touch Sechelt with a 10-foot pole.

This group has launched an intensive campaign to scuttle the new sewer treatment plant, writing letters to the local newspapers, to the provincial government, and to off-Coast reporters who don't seem to be able to figure out what the real story is here - bullying by a few. If we lose funding for this project, it will be the direct result of these people. If the governments give credence to their ranting, then we're in worse shape than we all thought.

They have no regard for the families and young people who are leaving the Coast due to lack of jobs and economic futures. This group is a collaboration of seniors who have time to complain about change to a place where they thought the drawbridge would come up after they moved here.

Watch out, Sechelt, because these people are determined to fight for the old ways to continue, no matter what the cost to everyone else. It's irresponsible and a death knell to the vitality and future of Sechelt.
