I was at the Davis Bay Community Association's monthly meeting Feb. 10, and what a memorable meeting it was.

Tom Sheldon, a photographer and adventurer extraordinaire, graciously showed us a slideshow presentation of some of his outstanding pictures. His breathtaking, real-life, underwater close-up shots of the rarely seen, colourful West Coast corals and some of the outback wildlife came to a true reality on the screen. The title was Escape, featuring flora and fauna above and below the water of the central coast of British Columbia.

Sheldon also brought the Olympic Torch with him along with the Olympic red mitts, white jacket and white tuque. A few of us were fortunate to have the opportunity to wear the paraphernalia and get our pictures taken. What a thrill it was. I felt privileged in wearing the clothes and holding on to the once-in-a-lifetime Olympic Torch.

I say: "Vive le Canada." Yes, I am proud to be Canadian. The Davis Bay Community Association meets every second Wed-nesday of the month at the Davis Bay Hall. It is always interesting - come join us and be treated to a few hours of something you may not have expected.
