Re: SD46 concerned about cuts to funding (Coast Reporter, Feb. 27)
This last provincial budget is moronic. To get the depth and true meaning of moronic I refer to the dictionary definitions: stupid, foolish, senseless, brainless, idiotic, asinine, ridiculous, absurd, preposterous, witless, half-baked, empty-headed, unintelligent, weak-minded.
The ongoing cuts to B.C. public schools have already forced school boards to carve everything to the bone. Fact is that standard costs like Medical Services Premiums, Hydro, insurance have risen and government has not funded several contracts, which they have negotiated. Reality is that government dictates of more cuts are destructive.
The locally elected school trustees are not being heard. Even the all party provincial Standing Committee on Finance recommendations regarding education were ignored by Premier Christy Clark’s government.
They are governing as though the majority of children and youth in our communities don’t matter. And we cannot be silent.
It is becoming crystal clear that public education is not valued by this government. Their spin and misinformation about spending in public schools doesn’t fool families/children and youth, teachers, administrators and/or our communities. The damage is way beyond words. It is 100 per cent destructive to our children and youth and that is moronic and heartbreaking.
