Unwelcome woods

LETTERS

Editor:

The area along Eastwood Road was nicely repaved a few years back. This makes sense, as it is a major route to Halfmoon Bay Elementary School for private vehicles and school buses.

However, what baffles me is that the state of the rest of Eastwood Road allowance. The locals call it the tunnel in reference to the maples and alders that reach out across the road in their quest for sun. There are smaller trees that grow, making walking on the wide, albeit mucky shoulder next to impossible. These trees also obscure vision as to where predators may lay in wait for small pets. Also, in the unlikely event of a forest fire coming up from Sargeant Bay, if conditions are right, there could be enough energy transfer to have the fire jump the road and threaten adjacent housing.

Oh, and that one alder being held up by a few small branches: call it a lottery.
