Highway versus bridge? A tunnel from Horseshoe Bay to Gibsons is the best solution to this “absolute necessity” problem. We all “dig tunnels” like the one from England to France and back. A bridge will cause all kinds of problems for ships while a highway will “destroy” part of our beautiful environment and leave a hideous scar forever, which could cause immense damage to our tourist industry. Driving time to Vancouver will result in the creation of a gigantic “carbon footprint” adding to the hastening of the “End of the World.”

A tunnel will be a quiet, direct route and would certainly reduce the terrible traffic turmoil in Horseshoe Bay. Cost of construction could be shaved dramatically if we did the work during the winter months when the extra low tides occur. Federal grant money could be obtained from the federal taxpayers and the same from the provincial ones so that Sunshine Coast taxpayers would be on the hook for a comparatively small amount. Seattle has a machine that we could purchase at a rock-bottom price as it appears that they won’t be using it anymore. A bridge or a highway would always remind us of the final cost (including overruns) whereas a tunnel will always be “out of sight, out of mind.”
