Opinions of the Sechelt Nation are blowing like the wind here on the Sunshine Coast, heading in all directions. Some are supportive and respectful, and others are angered and resentful.

A lot of opinions began when this Dock Management Plan become an issue. My opinion is that this plan is the least of concerns to our people. We have a much larger issue to fight. That is to seek a “Declaration of Title” to our ancestral lands. We have exhausted all avenues to have title to our lands recognized. Treaty had little to offer, this reconciliation is another form of treaty. We will take our battle all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada. We are confident we will win.

The past has caught up to us all and the truth will now be known. What better evidence is there than the truth? People fear when we win there will be changes; I agree that changes will happen. We have waited for this moment for generations. At one time in history, it was against the law for our people to hire lawyers to fight for our lands. No matter what has happened to our people, oppression, suppression or discrimination, we have always found the strength to continue the battle.
