Time to abolish the senate

Editor Ian Jacques' June 7 editorial "Halt the gravy train" was right on.

The Senate is another costly public institution living off taxpayers' hard-earned money.

For example, Senator Pamela Wallin, who receives a yearly $132,000 salary, charged a $375,000 travel bill over three years. Since 2007/08 the Senate has spent nearly $1 million on tax fees on outside audits of Senator expenses. Is this necessary when we taxpayers are spending $92 million a year to keep the useless costly Senate open - and for whose benefit? It is time the "gravy train" Senate is abolished and that the $92 million and building is put into a needed universal quality child care service.
