Three cheers for rec centre

When I first walked through the doors of the Gibsons and Area Commu-nity Centre (GACC) I was immediately impressed.

When I first walked through the doors of the Gibsons and Area Commu-nity Centre (GACC) I was immediately impressed. Finally we had a community facility that offered a range of activities to young and old alike - racquet courts, meeting rooms, spaces for teens as well as preschoolers whose parents might be exercising, a gym with great equipment, an ice arena and even the Sunshine Shack co-ordinated by volunteer Pat Stuart. I was thrilled.

So it was with great dismay that I read the letter in Coast Reporter Aug. 14 which suggested the GACC was not being used and was an unnecessary expense.

I am frequently at the centre, sometimes exercising alone, but mostly participating in many of the excellent fitness classes that are offered. The classes are very well-attended by a range of people of all ages. Of course the facility will have less busy times, which is the nature of fitness facilities throughout B.C.. But in my opinion it is very well used and I am pleased to see my tax dollars put to such good use.

The GACC is a huge addition to this community and I compliment Ted Chisholm, who, with his very professional staff, has put together some first-class programs. I have yet to run into any staff member who is not friendly, helpful and eager to get users' feedback and ideas. I know too that my opinions are echoed by many of my fellow fitness enthusiasts.
