The write stuff

Letters

Editor:

It is with mixed feelings of sadness — and happiness for you — that I read of you leaving Coast Reporter.

Our lives constantly change, yet you have been a rock and a pillar for this community as editor. Many people will feel sadness and a great sense of loss when you leave. Congratulations on your new position. If you do for your new publisher what you have achieved here with Coast Reporter, your employer will be thrilled. I personally wish you a wonderful new adventure and know that you will face it head on with nothing but success.

Since I came here five years ago, I have grown to deeply respect your personal and business professionalism and integrity. You always write the right stuff. You do not mince words, and you tell it like it is. You champion many good causes and focus on events and happenings that need fair and equitable media coverage. Your editorials always shed light on important subjects. You kept the community in touch, from the smallest event to news of great importance.

You don’t take sides, yet you say what needs to be said for the readership to be informed enough to make their own decisions. Your reporting is factual and unbiased.

Your newspaper is vibrant and full of life. You paint a wonderful weekly kaleidoscope of community colour in pictures and words. No wonder you have garnered many awards.

Ian, I thank you again — and on behalf of thousands of people who don’t write to the editor — for all you have done to support the Sunshine Coast community in countless ways.

We will miss you.

Frances McGuckin, Halfmoon Bay
