The best of editors

Editor: A good editor must possess several qualities, and as your columnist for mental health issues on the Coast, I have had the best. Ian Jacques has a unique respect for a writer’s intent. His attention to detail is second to none.

Editor:

A good editor must possess several qualities, and as your columnist for mental health issues on the Coast, I have had the best.

Ian Jacques has a unique respect for a writer’s intent. His attention to detail is second to none. His sense of the language is without peer. His tolerance for missed deadlines is strict, but not unbending. And that key quality, the editor’s good-natured grumpiness, is there in spades.

We are losing Ian to a pair of sister papers on the Mainland. This is a big, open sky for Ian and his talents. And while we will miss him, we must also celebrate a well-earned step to higher ground for a man who has been tireless in his devotion to Coast Reporter.

Without Ian and former associate publisher Cathie Roy, Coast Reporter will take on a different flavour. But with the writers on staff and with an editorial vision guided by inspired leadership, we shall continue to look forward to every Friday for years to come.
