The Sunshine Coast is blessed with hundreds of people who give their time, expertise and money to make our coastal home a better place to live.
Most of the time, volunteers work together on projects. Often, however, dedicated folks go about quietly and without notice or fanfare to take care of our community.
On a recent Sunday, as I turned off Roberts Creek Road towards Sechelt, I saw John Rainer in his ever-present shorts diligently sweeping the bus stop of the dust and debris that collects along our roads.
He doesn’t have to, obviously, but knowing John, he does it because it matters to him that he can do something to create a more pleasant experience for those who use the bus stop. And so he does something.
Thank you, John. And thank you to all those who do things without seeking praise, recognition or remuneration, who do things because it makes the Coast a better place. We need more of you.
