Congratulations to Capilano University faculty and students of the mountain bike operations program for a successful event, launching the exciting new addition to the trails in Kinnikinnick Park.

The students who built these trails have done an outstanding job and made a great effort at the Roam the Loam event to speak passionately about mountain biking, and to take people young and old into the woods, talk about trail sustainability, respect for nature and each other - they were great local role models.

The Sunshine Coast is already a world-class destination for mountain biking, and these kind of forward thinking programs are what we need in a society where old models are crumbling. We need to look to the youth and ask them what it is they are passionate about, support them in that and find ways to rally the community and local government into action.

The week after the trail was built, my son attended a birthday party in the woods, on his bike. It has truly transformed this neighbourhood where there was formerly nothing available for kids to do. Thanks to the vision of Capilano University for offering this program and to local Sechelt government for getting behind it. The Sunshine Coast truly is in the position to be a model of creative sustainability for other communities.
