A group of O'Shea residents met with the Town of Gibsons infrastructure committee on Sept. 22 to express our concerns related to the chicanes installed on our road earlier this summer. This was done in response to a request for traffic calming by some of the residents. We were not told of the form that this would take.

This same group of residents has polled the whole street to obtain an independent reaction to the chicanes. An overwhelming majority would like the chicanes removed since there are a number of concerns related to safety, obstructions, winter weather conditions and the fact that the chicanes are not slowing down the traffic.

We presented our case and requested alternate calming measures, perhaps speed cushions and marked crosswalks. The response was less than affirmative, leaving us to consider how else we can effect change to the satisfaction of our residents.

Despite our efforts and information gathered, the committee decided to have another open house to hear the residents' concerns and may decide to have another poll.
