Editor: In an age when many people are too busy in their own lives and careers to participate in municipal politics, I am impressed to see the qualifications of some of the candidates running for Gibsons council.

In an age when many people are too busy in their own lives and careers to participate in municipal politics, I am impressed to see the qualifications of some of the candidates running for Gibsons council.

There is great depth of leadership and experience, gained the hard way — two are successful business entrepreneurs with experience in community service, another is willing to give up his good full-time job as environmental engineer if he is elected to council. Three of them are experienced in local politics, and have performed exceedingly well in their roles.

Gibsons has many challenges ahead: securing jobs that will attract new people and creating ways to pay for infrastructure repairs that don’t involve hiking taxes to the max. We need people who are visionary, committed and in it for the Town’s benefit, not just themselves.
