Standing up for Sechelt

Though several weeks have passed since the publication in a Vancouver paper casting aspersions against Sechelt's mayor, time has in no way diminished the vehemence it has stirred up within a large contingent of Sechelt citizens.

We're not prepared to dismiss it yet, and we trust that our local publication, by publishing our letters, will enable us to continue to voice our outrage.

The absurd comments and malicious innuendo made towards Mayor John Henderson by the writer seriously tarnish the image of Sechelt by trivializing the efforts of both the mayor and council, all of whom work long hours for little pay.

We don't need columns like hers bad-mouthing Sechelt. We've already got a number of saboteurs living much closer to home.

There's our self-professed expert on everything in Sechelt, who doesn't even live in the District. Admittedly he is an articulate fellow who crafts a good letter, though often misleading. In response to some of the inaccuracies implied by the writer in her article, Mayor Henderson owned his Tesla car before running for mayor, he never uses the District charging stations, and you cannot see lot L from his driveway. Would we rather have a successful businessman as mayor (e.g. Michael Bloomberg of New York City, in for three consecutive terms) or someone in need of the money? The vast majority of residents voted for Henderson in 2011, let him do his job and vote him out next time if that's the majority wish.

In the meantime, let's build up our hometown and not let a few miscreants tear it down. And by the way, a Tesla is an electric car, which should appease those of us concerned about the environment. Give the man some credit, already!
